A hot and stinky birthday

To the one I love the very most....

Happy Birthday!

This picture was not taken on July 12th.

It was taken a week later, because this old man spent his actual birthday....

... here, at good ole Mutual Dell.

With them.
Twenty energetic and dirty 12 year olds.

Supervising this.

And swimming and canoeing here everyday to cool off, from the scorching temps.

Happy

Birthday

Master of the Scouts!

We missed him, but at least he got to spend his birthday with Brandon, my accomplice and the executor of the secret decorating of the tent and campsite, signing of the cards and distributing of the gifts that we smuggled up to camp in his duffel bag.

That's my Trevor, always serving.

Always smiling.

I love you.

Brrrrrrrrrr

WHY IN THE WORLD

WOULD ANYONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND

CHOOSE

TO GO CAMPING
(Please let me explain the above picture. Dig trench in snow. Lay down tarp in trench. Lay down sleeping bag on tarp in trench. Insert boy into sleeping bag. Cover with other half of tarp. Try to sleep. Crazy!!)

IN THE SNOW?

I'll tell you why.
Because they are men and they love it. Because it gives them bragging rights. Because it makes them tough. And because it is totally awesome and they have a blast, or so they say. I actually felt a little better about sending my sons off to winter camp when I learned that they really do learn survival skills. That there was a purpose to the madness of sleeping in below freezing temperatures, and that purpose was to learn how to survive if you were ever stranded in the cold. So, I was OK to let them go this year. As long as I was home warm and cozy in my bed, I was absolutely OK.
AND when our car drives off the road in a raging storm next winter and nobody can find us for 5 days, I know my boys will make sure we survive, in the snow, freezing temperatures, and trenches....we will survive!

Happy Birthday to YOU!

When I asked Trevor what he wanted to do for his birthday he said he just wanted to stay home, have dinner and a regular Family Home Evening. We have been playing so hard this summer and traveling so much, I thought it was the perfect way to celebrate his special day and so that's just what we did.
This guy doesn't have many "quiet" nights at home. He is always busy. Always working on something. Always doing something for someone else. Always trying to find time to fit everything in. We are grateful he is ours and that he has a birthday so we could just sit together as a family, eat burgers and chocolate donuts and cake and celebrate his life. It's been a great life so far and we are lucky to be a part of it!
Happy Birthday Trevor!
We love you!

Reason # 1

...to not take your husband grocery shopping with you.

You might come home with a
giant tennis ball!
I am still waiting to see exactly what he plans on doing
with this great find of his!
