the love of her life

Some kids are attached to blankies, some to dollies, others to their teddy bears. Ashlyn is attached to none of the above. Ashlyn is attached to books. Not one book, not two, but every single book she can get her hands on. Multiple times every day this is how I find my little Ashie.

She reads her books from the library basket at least once a day. What I mean by "reads" is that she talks out loud about the pictures she is looking at. And after she has heard a book just once, she can recite it almost word for word. It is an amazing thing to watch.

She doesn't even care if there are no pictures. If it has pages, she picks it up, carefully turns each page and happily tells herself the story that those pages contain. She loves being read to
but she also loves alone time with her precious books, and sometimes she even prefers it that way. Just a girl and her books.

She reads at the bottom of the stairs.

She reads at the top of the stairs. All day long I pick up a trail of books all over the house.

And she closes each of her busy book reading days with the biggest pile of books you've ever seen. She squeals with delight when she spots a new book she hasn't read before. Her instant best friend is anyone who will let her climb into their lap and read a book with her. The library is like Disneyland. All she wanted for Christmas was books. She loves books. She really, really loves books and I hope she always will. She is a bookworm, a future librarian, the apple of her book selling daddy's eye. And who needs a blankie anyways when you've got yourself a good book! Not Ashlyn, that's for sure!
