One of the absolute highlights of kindergarten is the end of the year visit to the cafeteria. The purpose of this highly anticipated day is to prepare these little 6 year olds for what they will be facing every day for the rest of their elementary lives.....LUNCH at school! Ethan was so excited he could hardly stand it. He ran up to his room before school, emptied out his wallet, and came running downstairs with a crumpled dollar bill and 2 quarters tight in his fist. Really, I was going to pay for his first lunch, but he insisted.
His excitement was palpable.
One of the perks of having an "A" last name is always being first in line. Ethan had the best view of the lunch lady as she was explaining what a "spork" was.He was fascinated.
He carefully chose his fruit cup.
And then zipped down the counter with his turkey sandwich. (It was supposed to be a chicken patty sandwich, but apparently they ran out of chicken patties, so they slapped a piece of lunch meat on the bun and called it good.)He didn't seem to mind a bit.
He was delighted with his chocolate milk and cookie.

He was so proud and it was about the cutest thing ever to watch him and his little classmates eat all alone in that big ole cafeteria.
Ethan didn't really have time to chat with all the others because he was too busy eating. He ate every last thing on that Styrofoam plate.
And I'm glad he enjoyed it so much, because I know it won't last. By the end of next year he will have discovered the green hot dogs and the hairy chicken (at least that's what we had at my elementary school) and he will be brown bagging it most of the time, like the rest of my kids. But for today it was a feast.

Cute! Dustin of course has had all day Kindergarten - including lunch. It's been fun to go to lunch with him a couple of times - parents can come whenever they want to.
